Spring reminds me of 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
New life! It is so wonderful to see the flowers start to peek through the ground, to see the snow finally melt and to have the wonderful warmth of the spring sun! It makes us all happy. We walk with an extra spring in our step.
So it is here when we see a mom choose life and we see that beautiful little baby as he or she grows. More and more I find myself burdened for children. I feel heartsick when I hear of children being abused, mistreated, neglected, abandoned or worse. We know that abortions are alive and well in America. What about the rest of the world? I was recently in North Africa and was astounded to learn that the rate of abortions was 7 – 8 for most women. They use abortion as a means to space out their children. I often wonder what these little babies would have accomplished in a lifetime had they been allowed to live. Would they be musicians, doctors, nurses, lawyers, janitors, carpenters, diplomats? We will never know. And how about euthanasia for children in some countries? It saddens me. The sanctity of life! Does the word sanctity have any value to the majority of people in our world anymore? Our world is quickly changing. What once was thought of as important is no longer important. We live in a world where compromise is the norm.
My prayer is that we would become a nation and a world that values life for all people. God didn’t just create the beautiful, the smart, the talented, and the healthy. He created each one of us. I pray that as we enjoy the beauty of spring that our hearts would truly become softened and we would experience changed hearts in order to save lives.
